Lifecode Gx DNA Methylation Test

Methylation
At-home Lifecode Gx DNA test

The engine room behind your energy, mood and hormones

You eat well, you take your supplements, and you still feel flat. Maybe a B12 or folate result came back normal but you don’t feel normal. Maybe a multivitamin makes you feel worse, not better.

Very often the answer sits in methylation. It’s a process happening billions of times a second in your body, and it runs your energy, mood, detox, hormones and how you repair your DNA. Some of us are simply wired to do it slower, or faster, than others.

The Lifecode Gx DNA methylation test is a simple at-home cheek swab. It shows how efficiently you use key nutrients like folate, B12, B6, choline and magnesium, so your plan and your supplements are matched to you rather than to the average person.

Signs to look out for

Could methylation be part of your picture?

This is the panel I recommend starting with for almost everyone, because methylation touches nearly every system. It may be especially useful if you recognise several of these:

  • Fatigue that doesn’t lift with rest, or energy that crashes in the afternoon
  • Low mood, anxiety or feeling wired and tired
  • Brain fog or poor concentration
  • Feeling worse on standard B vitamins or methylated supplements
  • Hormone issues such as PMS, heavy periods or oestrogen dominance
  • Fertility challenges or planning a pregnancy
  • Sensitivity to chemicals, alcohol, caffeine or medications
  • A family history of heart disease or high homocysteine

That supplement point is a big one. I see clients taking high-dose methylfolate because they read about MTHFR online, and feeling more anxious for it. Methylation is a balance, and your genes show which way you tip.

Five connected cycles

What the Lifecode Gx methylation test looks at

The report maps the five connected cycles that make up your methylation system. A slow step in one can ripple through the others, which is why looking at single genes like MTHFR on their own often misleads.

Area Genes looked at Why it matters for you
Folate cycle DHFR, FOLH1, MTHFD1, MTHFR, RFC1, SHMT1, TYMS How well you absorb and activate folate, the starting fuel for methylation
Methionine cycle AHCY, BHMT, CHDH, FUT2, MAT1A, MTR, MTRR, PEMT, TCN2 Your need for B12, choline and betaine, and how you make SAMe, your main methyl donor
Neurotransmitter cycle COMT, MAOA, MAOB, MTHFR, PNMT, QDPR, VDR How you clear dopamine, adrenaline and oestrogen, which shapes mood, stress and hormones
Transsulphuration CBS, CTH, GSS, MUT, SUOX How you make glutathione and handle sulphur, linked to detox and sulphite sensitivity
Urea cycle BDKRB2, NOS, SOD Ammonia clearance, nitric oxide and circulation

Each gene comes with the nutrients and lifestyle factors it depends on, so your plan is specific rather than generic. Your genes aren’t your destiny; they show where to focus.

Simple, at-home testing

How it works

  1. Book a strategy call so we can check this is the right test for you and choose your panels.
  2. Your kit arrives at home. It’s a simple cheek swab, with no blood and no needles.
  3. Post it back to the Lifecode Gx lab.
  4. I analyse your report alongside your symptoms, history and any recent blood tests.
  5. We meet online to go through your results, and you leave with a clear plan and a recording of the session.

Methylation is the foundation panel. Most clients pair it with one or two focused panels, such as Hormones, Nervous System or Histamine, depending on what brought them to me.

Pricing depends on which panels you choose and how your programme is set up, so we’ll decide together on your strategy call.

Other DNA panels: Hormones · Nervous System · Detoxification · Metabolics · Nutrient Core · Histamine. See all DNA testing options.

DNA methylation test FAQs

What is the difference between this and a standard MTHFR test? + −

An MTHFR test looks at one gene. This report looks at around 30 genes across five connected cycles, so we can see whether MTHFR actually matters for you, or whether the bottleneck is somewhere else entirely.

Should I be taking methylfolate if I have an MTHFR variant? + −

Not automatically. Some people do brilliantly on it and others feel anxious or wired. Your COMT and MAO results, alongside your symptoms and blood tests, tell us the right form and dose for you.

Can this test help with fertility and pregnancy planning? + −

Methylation is central to egg and sperm health and early development, so many clients test before trying to conceive. It helps us choose the right forms of folate and B12 for you.

How long do results take? + −

Results take 3 to 4 weeks from when the lab receives your sample. Once your report is in, we book your results consultation.

Can I do the test from outside the UK? + −

Yes. I work with clients internationally and all consultations are online. Get in touch and I’ll confirm kit delivery to your country.

Do I need to stop medication or supplements before the test? + −

No. Your DNA doesn’t change, so medication, diet and supplements won’t affect the result.

Does my DNA decide my health? + −

No. Your genes show where you’re more vulnerable. Diet, gut health, stress, sleep and targeted nutrients decide how those genes actually behave, which is exactly what we work on together.
