Laura Lam

Hi! I’m Laura – a BANT and CNHC registered Nutritional Therapist and Functional Medicine Practitioner, specialising in Hormone Balance, Mental Health and Digestive Health. I base my client strategies on Functional Medicine (looking at root causes & systems), Nutrigenomics/Epigenetics and Functional Blood Test Analysis.

Having suffered from the ups and downs of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) from the age of 21, I understand how debilitating digestive problems can be to everyday life. I also saw how poor digestion impacted other areas of my health, including my focus, energy, and hormonal imbalances. Back then, I was eating a lot of plants and green smoothies (“pond water” as my colleagues would call it!) – I thought that was health, but I could not have been further from the truth.

Something told me that there was more to nutrition than just “eating more plants” because my gut issues, hormone issues, anxiety, and low energy continued to debilitate me. My search for answers led to studying/training in a Level 6 Diploma in Nutritional Therapy and Clinical Practice for 7 years part-time with BCNH College of Nutrition and Health, a BANT and University accredited institution, to become a Nutritional Therapist/Functional Medicine Practitioner. My training was long and required plenty of clinical experience, but I pushed forward knowing that this form of medicine made sense.

Since graduating in February 2021, I have worked with hundreds of clients in-person and online, whilst interpreting numerous blood and functional tests for each individual. I was part of the multi-disciplinary clinical team at a fast-paced Functional Health Clinic in SW London from 2021 to 2023, and now I work purely online to ensure I can live a healthy, balanced lifestyle too.

Nutrition and health is a huge part of my life, but aside from those, I love travelling, yoga, painting and the arts!

Qualifications & Further Training

Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis Mastery Programme - 2024 +

Blood testing is always my first port of call for data when I work with a client. It provides the fundamental information about an individual’s health. For each of my clients I use Functional Blood Analysis methods to interpret their blood tests, which means I spot imbalances in their blood test sooner than if it’s analysed by your doctor with only reference ranges in mind.

My training is with the renowned Dr Dicken Weatherby, the leading expert in Functional Blood Analysis and founder of Optimal Dx.

Lifecode Gx Nutrigenomics Master Practitioner: Nervous System - 2024 +

Mental health is a great interest of mine, so I am continuing my nutrigenomics training with Lifecode Gx on the Nutrigenomics Master programme. This course provides me a deeper understanding of how genes and the environment impact neurotransmitter interactions. This course unravels the neuro-biochemistry behind labels such as – ADHD, anxiety, impulsivity, OCD, depression, anorexia nervosa, bipolar, fibromyalgia and autism, and illustrating the power of nutrigenomics to support and optimise nervous system health.

Following the completion of my training, I am a certified LifecodeGx Nutrigenomics Master Practitioner in Mental Health and listed as this on the BANT website.

Certified Nutrigenomics Practitioner, Lifecode Gx NPP - 2024 +

Nutrigenomics is the practice of using genetic information to personalise nutritional advice for my clients. The DNA tests I run can help optimise my clients’ health programme based on their unique DNA. This approach allows for more effective dietary recommendations, leading to improved wellness and disease prevention tailored to each of my clients’ genetic makeup.

My training was with Lifecode Gx, a leading provider of Nutrigenomics Testing and Epigenetics Education, led by Emma Beswick and Chloe Lortal.

I am a certified Nutrigenomics Practitioner listed on the BANT website.

Oh! Fertility Training Trimester 1 with Angela Heap globally recognised Fertility Nutritionist - 2024 +

This 4 week course with Angela Heap was a deep dive into Trimester 1 of pregnancy, the stage in which there are most variables that may affect the mum and baby. In this training, I was able to understand the physiological, biochemical, emotional and symptomatic changes in a new mother in her first 12 weeks. Under my belt, I have the understanding to look out for certain signs, symptoms and biomarkers in blood tests to order at various points in the first trimester. I have now supported a number of clients through their pregnancy successfully.

Hormone Reset Practitioner Programme 2021 +

Many of my female clients have some hormone imbalance or disorder, which greatly impacts their daily lives. I studied on this course to strengthen my understanding of female menstrual cycle, hormone related disorders and symptoms, treatments and nutritional strategies. This course covered conditions from PMS, PMDD, PCOS, PCO, endometriosis, menopause, amenorrhoea, dysmenorrhoea, issues at menarche and the problem with contraceptives.

This course was taught by well known Nutritional Therapist and Functional Medicine Practitioner Christine Bailey.

Nutri Advanced Gut Transformation Programme Practitioner - 2021 +

The Gut Transformation Practitioner Programme is based on the 5R Protocol – Remove, Replace, Reinoculate, Repair, Retain. When treating digestive problems, it’s not a simple as taking a probiotic – in fact, it could make digestive issues worse. This training programme provided me a deep understanding of the digestive system to help support patients with unpleasant, nagging gut-related issues they may have been suffering with for years and to no avail.

This course was taught by industry renowned Nutritional Therapist and cancer specialist Jo Gamble.

DipNT Level 6 Diploma in Nutritional Therapy and Clinical Practice Based on Functional Medicine - Completed 2021 +

My journey to becoming a Nutritional Therapist involved extensive clinical training grounded in Functional Medicine principles. I completed a Level 6 Diploma in Nutritional Therapy (equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree), which included working with real clients under expert supervision. This hands-on experience allowed me to develop personalised health plans and refine my clinical skills. Upon graduating in 2021, I became a BANT (British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine) and CNHC (Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council) Certified Nutritional Therapist, enabling me to support clients with a wide range of health concerns through one-to-one consultations. From then onwards, I have engaged in numerous training programmes to ensure my knowledge and clinical skills are adept for supporting the most complex clients.

In addition to my clinical work, I earned a Level 6 Diploma in Nutrition and Health, certifying me as a public-facing Nutritionist. One of my key skills is public speaking, with a unique ability to engage audiences by translating complex nutritional science into relatable, actionable advice. I regularly deliver workshops and talks on topics such as gut health, hormone balance, and mental well-being, combining evidence-based insights with practical strategies that inspire lasting lifestyle changes.

My qualification also enables me to take on advisory roles, including consulting with food companies on product development and recipe creation, as well as working with corporate businesses to design and deliver workplace wellness programs. This blend of scientific expertise and real-world application allows me to create impactful, results-driven solutions for both individuals and organisations.
