See how well your body clears what it doesn't need
One glass of wine and you feel it for two days. Perfume gives you a headache. Medications that work for everyone else leave you with side effects, and your skin seems to react to everything.
Detox isn’t about juice cleanses. It’s the quiet work your liver, gut and cells do all day, breaking down hormones, medications, alcohol, caffeine and everyday chemicals so they can leave your body. Your genes decide how fast each of those steps runs.
The Lifecode Gx detoxification test is a simple at-home cheek swab. It shows which of your clearance pathways are faster or slower, so we can support the ones that need it with food, nutrients and practical changes at home.

Could detox genes be part of your picture?
This panel may be worth considering if you recognise several of these:
- Strong reactions to alcohol, caffeine or medications
- Sensitivity to perfume, cleaning products or smoke
- Headaches, muscle aches or fatigue without a clear cause
- Skin problems such as acne, eczema or rashes
- Hormone issues linked to oestrogen dominance
- Bloating, reflux or heartburn
- Slow recovery after illness
- Known exposure to mould, metals or chemicals at work or home
If your detox pathways are slow, the goal isn’t to push them harder with an aggressive cleanse. That often makes people feel worse. We support the right steps in the right order, and lower the load coming in.

What the Lifecode Gx detoxification test looks at
Detox happens in three phases. Phase I breaks substances down, Phase II packages them up, and Phase III moves them out. Problems often arise when one phase runs faster than the next.
| Area | Genes looked at | Why it matters for you |
|---|---|---|
| Phase I (P450 enzymes) | CYP1A1, CYP1A2, CYP1B1, CYP2A6, CYP2C9, CYP2C19, CYP2D6, CYP2E1, CYP3A4 | How quickly you break down caffeine, hormones, medications and pollutants |
| Alcohol | ADH1B, ADH1C, ALDH2 | Why alcohol hits some people much harder |
| Antioxidant protection | SOD2, GPX1, NQO1, PON1 | How well you protect your cells during detox, including from pesticides |
| Phase II packaging | UGT1A1, UGT2B7, COMT, MTHFR, SULT1A1, SULT1E1, SULT2A1, NAT1, NAT2, GSTM1, GSTP1, GSTT1 | The routes that make toxins and hormones safe to remove, including glutathione |
| Phase III transport | ABCB1, ABCG2 | How well cells pump finished products out |
Each gene comes with the nutrients and foods that support it, such as cruciferous vegetables, protein, glycine and B vitamins, so your plan is targeted rather than a generic cleanse.
How it works
- Book a strategy call so we can check this is the right test for you and choose your panels.
- Your kit arrives at home. It’s a simple cheek swab, with no blood and no needles.
- Post it back to the Lifecode Gx lab.
- I analyse your report alongside your symptoms, history and any recent blood tests.
- We meet online to go through your results, and you leave with a clear plan and a recording of the session.
Detoxification pairs well with Hormones for anyone with oestrogen-related symptoms, and with DNA Methylation, which runs one of the key Phase II routes.
Pricing depends on which panels you choose and how your programme is set up, so we’ll decide together on your strategy call.
Other DNA panels: DNA Methylation · Hormones · Histamine · Nervous System · Metabolics · Nutrient Core. See all DNA testing options.
Detoxification DNA test FAQs
Do I need to do a detox programme after the test?
Not in the way most people think. We usually focus on lowering your daily exposure, then feeding the specific pathways that are slow. It is gentle and sustainable.
Can this explain my reactions to medication?
It can show whether the enzymes that process many common medications run fast or slow. Please share any concerns with your doctor or pharmacist, who can take this into account.
Is this useful for mould or heavy metal exposure?
Yes. It shows how well equipped you are to clear these, which helps us plan support safely and at the right pace.
How long do results take?
Results take 3 to 4 weeks from when the lab receives your sample. Once your report is in, we book your results consultation.
Can I do the test from outside the UK?
Yes. I work with clients internationally and all consultations are online. Get in touch and I’ll confirm kit delivery to your country.
Do I need to stop medication or supplements before the test?
No. Your DNA doesn’t change, so medication, diet and supplements won’t affect the result.
Does my DNA decide my health?
No. Your genes show where you’re more vulnerable. Diet, gut health, stress, sleep and targeted nutrients decide how those genes actually behave, which is exactly what we work on together.
