When your environment is making you unwell
You feel unwell in a way that’s hard to explain. Exhaustion, brain fog, aches, sinus problems, new sensitivities to food, smells or light, and a long list of symptoms that don’t fit neatly into one diagnosis.
Trained in biotoxin illness, CIRS and mould with Co LabFor some people, the missing piece is mould. Living or working in a water-damaged building can expose you to biotoxins that some bodies struggle to clear, triggering a chronic, body-wide inflammatory response known as CIRS (chronic inflammatory response syndrome).
I help you work out whether mould or other biotoxins may be part of your picture, and support your body to recover once the exposure is dealt with.
Does this sound familiar?
- Fatigue and brain fog that started after moving home, a leak or a flood
- Symptoms that improve when you’re away from home or work, and return when you’re back
- Sinus congestion, a constant cough or shortness of breath
- Aches, headaches, tingling or temperature swings
- New sensitivities to foods, chemicals, smells or light
- Anxiety, low mood or poor sleep that don’t seem to have a cause
- Others in your household feeling unwell too, sometimes in different ways
CIRS and mould illness often overlap with chronic fatigue, histamine issues and chronic viral infections, which is why a whole-body view matters.
What's often behind it
- Ongoing exposure. Hidden mould in a home, workplace or car keeps the inflammatory response switched on.
- Genetics. Some people are less able to recognise and clear biotoxins, so they become unwell while others in the same building don’t.
- Detoxification and gut health. Your liver, bile flow and gut all play a role in clearing toxins from the body.
- Histamine and mast cell activation. Mould exposure can make your body more reactive, driving new sensitivities.
- Other stressors. Viral reactivation, nutrient depletion and an overloaded nervous system often come along for the ride.
How I work with you
I trained in biotoxin illness with Co Lab and Dr Louise Carder, and take a careful, step-by-step approach, because people with CIRS are often very sensitive.
- Investigate. Your symptoms, timeline, home and work environment, and any history of water damage or leaks.
- Test where it helps. Functional blood markers, and where relevant DNA testing for detoxification and histamine. I can also guide you on assessing your home environment.
- Plan. Removing the source of exposure comes first. Then we support detoxification, gut health, the nervous system and inflammation, at a pace your body can tolerate.
- Support. Recovery is rarely linear, so we adjust as you go and work alongside your doctor where needed.

CIRS and mould illness FAQs
What is CIRS?
CIRS stands for chronic inflammatory response syndrome. It describes an ongoing, body-wide inflammatory response to biotoxins, most often from mould in water-damaged buildings, in people who struggle to clear them.
Do I need to move house?
Not necessarily. The priority is identifying and properly fixing any source of mould, which may mean professional inspection and remediation. Recovery is very difficult while exposure continues.
Can you diagnose mould illness?
No. I don’t diagnose medical conditions. I help you understand whether biotoxins may be contributing to your symptoms, support your recovery through nutrition and lifestyle, and work alongside your doctor.
When should I see a doctor?
Please see your doctor if you have breathing difficulties, wheezing, coughing up blood, unexplained weight loss, fevers or neurological symptoms such as numbness or weakness, so these can be checked first.
Do you work with clients outside the UK?
Yes. All consultations are online and I work with clients around the world, including in humid climates where mould is especially common.
Let's get to the root of it
A strategy call is a relaxed conversation about your health, what you've tried and what you want to change.
